Ventrilo, or how to get out!
Welcome to the wonderful world of voice chat with Ventrilo and Ventrilo servers!
You probably know almost all and TeamSpeak Mumble! Ventrilo is a bit in between! Better than teamspeak level latency, and less well than mumble on this same point, it has the advantage of being stable over the latter!
Several version of Ventrilo are available, the American and European chan pickup uses the latest version!
To install this program, simply click “next” loop, no need to do something in particular. For fans careful, they can take time to read, and at worst, change the installation directory.
Will now get down to business: The configuration! , it is only for people who advance on it, when it comes to the people like me, I better call Ventrilo host.
When you 1st use the fields “User Name”, “Server” and “Bindings” are required. For that, click the arrow next to the corresponding field (circled in red for the blind!)
A window will appear:
The “Select” will be empty, click “New” and create your username (a small window with just return the nickname to appear).
The 3 other fields is that the bonus!
The “Phonetic” is used just for those who keep the sounds Ventrilo, see who joins the channel, leaving the channel, connects etc … His nickname will be delivered by a synthetic voice the same way it is phonetically written here (for testing, click on play).
The other two fields, I have never used, and I honestly do not know what it serves.
Once the profile is created, click OK.

New: Create new profile server
Clone: Clone an existing server profile.
Delete: Delete an existing server profile.
Hostname or IP: This is where we fit server IP (sometimes in the form of a website name, hence the “Hostname”)
Port Number: Here we enter the harbor.

Click OK!
For the “Bindings” is optional. I do not use it so I spend a direct result!

Come on, attacks the bone, the hardest part …
Use Push To Talk Hotkey (PTT): This option is for those who have bought a microphone from the peasants in the area. There’s more than to push to talk!
Enable outgoing voice communications: Without it, I doubt that it works well.
Use Direct Input to detect Hotkey: Allow checked, it costs nothing!
Play key clicks: A click can be regarded as a key to talk.
Discard Hotkey: Still a mystery today.
Hotkey: Here, the selected key appears. To select, click in the box and press the button / mouse button chosen! Can also put a combination of two keys!
Sensitivity: This one as it sets to the change of the microphone that is triggered (is definable if the PTT is disabled)
Silence time: Applies only for those without the PTT. This option sets the time it takes to silence the microphone stops working.
Bottom left is a “Test with” is to test your microphone. Choose a codec at random, and test. If you use the PTT, you will hear after having pulled the key!
Use direct sound: I do not know is ticked at myself for both. For my part I put the sound card I have on my PC as “input device” and “output device”
The “Hardware input mixer”, I do not touch it, I do not know what’s the point!
The “Amplifiers” serves to amplify the sound input and output (inbound and outbound)
And finally, the last frame in the bottom right “System sound control pannels” opens direct sound control windows!
I admit, is something of a mess, and the worst is that it’s not over …
For this part, free choice, you can have the leisure to hear sounds when someone connects or not. For my part, I removed all, it pains my example when someone like “cuckoo cuckoo lo paloma” who completed the phonetic connects. You’re entitled to a “cuckoo cuckoo paloma lo join the server” with a synthesized voice rotten and masculine.
So I put everything on “Nothing”, problem solved. This is particularly advantageous for Ventrilo, it is used almost exclusively for pickups, and many people connect / disconnect the server’s VT [= Ventrilo] (one can go up 5 or 6 at the same pickup time, then multiply by 12 for the number of players …)
For the other tabs, there is nothing very useful for basic use. So we will go to live overlay!

Regarding the “Screen Location”, just know this:
* Upper = Up
* Side = side (center side wholesale)
* Lower = Down
* Left = Left
* Right = Right
* Center = Mid
* Middle = Mid (yes!)
* Top = Top
* Bottom = bottom
You just have to mix all of that to choose the place of the overlay on your screen!
